The World of Capital The notion of capital changed over time. In the past capital was mainly defined as the machinery of companies and the financial endowments. Nowadays capital has a much broader and heterogeneous meaning. It encompasses natural resources and financial capital, as well as human capital, intellectual property and social and virtual capital. These are merely stand-alone concepts. There is a lot of cohesion and interaction between the different forms. It is like a house of bricks and cement: to build a solid house you need both. There is value in all the capital forms, but they need each other in order to create added wealth. Due to the ongoing societal changes and improvements in technology new forms of capital have developed and the use of the various forms of capital changed. All fields have experienced significant innovations. We live in high volatile times where there are ongoing changes in capital. Probably even more interesting is what the future will bring. Among others the following questions will be addressed: Will internet and online social networks change the economy? Is there a structural shift coming up in financial capital after the recent developments? And also: Are there even more new forms of capital to be developed? In which way do the leading companies of today manage the challenges of efficiently handling the interrelatedness? Are our politicians able to lead the economy with the ongoing changes at hand? The ambition of the Asset International Conference 2010 is to further investigate and discuss these and related issues. During the conference we will focus on the scientific, political and business perspectives and debate their interactions. Leading people in these fields will share their opinion and provide a look into the future. Furthermore students get the opportunity to actively participate during discussions and business cases.
The 22nd Asset International Conference “The World of Capital: Discovering its Future Notion” promises to be an inspiring conference: recent trends, a range of relevant angles and most importantly an interesting discussion about the near future of capital. The Asset International Conference aims to broaden the visitors’ horizon with respect to this topic.
