Alexander Rinnooy Kan is a Dutch mathematician. Since August 1^st 2006 he is a key member and chairman of the Dutch ‘Sociaal-Economische Raad’ (SER). During the years 1991-1996 he was the chairman of employer organization VNO.

In 2007, 2008 and 2009 Rinnooy Kan was proclaimed as the most influential man of the Netherlands.

Alexander Rinnooy Kan was our 'Food for Thought' guest at the 3rd of March. The interview with this interesting person proved to be a good session. Around 70-75 students and university-relatetd people attended the interview. After the impressive introduction of Rinnooy Kan by Tim Haarlemmer the interview started with the questtion: 'Who is Alexander Rinnooy Kan?´. According to himself, this was the most difficult question to be answered in an appropriate way. When this question was answered, the interviewers continued to make it an interesting interview with a lot of minds inspired by Rinnooy Kan. All of the topics, like the role of the SER in the Netherlands, sustainability and the knowledge economy, were substantiated in a professional way and were all answered with interesting thoughts. Before we knew it, the 45 minutes were over and Thomas Geelen and Tim Haarlemmer had to end this inspiring interview.

A last piece of advice was provided by Alexander Rinnooy Kan: Don´t go for a part-time job, go for a full-time one! \
